Putting the Muscle back into Classic Cars

76 Pontiac Trans Am

April 26, 2024

Rob purchased the 78 Pontiac Trans Am with 6.6L motor and TH350 Transmission from Country Victoria in 2011.  Rob has a passion for his Pontiacs and chose the 76 Trans Am because it is; Black, had a true Pontiac motor in it, was right hand drive and he was able to inspect the car before purchase, therefore avoiding the hassle and often disappointment associated with buying a classic car overseas or interstate.

The Trans Am was imported new into Australia back in 1976 and converted to Right Hand Drive by an unknown Victorian workshop soon after arrival.  The Pontiac has had five previous owners and seems to have spent allot of it's years in the Gippsland area of Victoria.  One of the previous owners has fitted an earlier model 400 Pontiac block with a higher horse power rating, this has original heads and factory ram air headers, a 4 barrel rochester carburettor and a twin straight through exhaust system which he will be looking at enlarging and updating at a later stage with Shane.   The Trans Am is running 17 x 9 Inch Cast Aluminium Rally Two Wheels, 245s front and 275s rear.

When Rob purchased the Pontiac he did some work on the interior, fitting new seat skins and foams, console, parcel shelf and sound system.  He bought it to Valigrunt as it wasn't running right and needed some adjustment to the carburettor and Rob wasn't happy with the suspension and handling of the Trans Am which Shane then looked at and rectified.
